A woman walking her dog was critically injured when she was hit by a motorcycle.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that a woman walking her dog was critically injured when she was hit by a motorcycle the previous night in Newbury Park. The rider of the motorcycle lost control of it while riding east on Lynn Road, causing the motorcycle to fall over, authorities said. Although the man was separated from the machine, the motorcycle continued and struck a woman who was walking her dog on the south sidewalk of the street, authorities said.

The pedestrian, Ellen Tyree, 74, of Newbury Park, suffered major injuries and was taken to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, authorities said. Tyree was in critical condition, officials said.

Her dog was also hit by the cycle and died at the scene, authorities said.

Speed and alcohol are suspected in the crash, officials said. The motorcyclist, Jonathan Deinhard, 21, of Camarillo, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence with injuries, authorities said.
